The drive shaft of a forklift can be impacted by either too much or too little weight. The only way to ensure that the drive shaft is correctly balanced is to repeat the balancing task until it is correct. Make sure that the amount of the load is correct before you begin to do the balancing. There are some things that can be done to make this task more accurate, which can be found in the next article.
If you do not know how to do this, you should visit your forklift dealer and get an expert to assist you with the balancing. Although it is possible to use a basic balance machine, there are some parts on a forklift that require special attention. These parts include the axles, the axles of a tower, and a power steering pump.
Before you begin to move the forklift to check for the drive shaft is correctly balanced, it is important to set the pivot points so that they are all at the same height. You should then unplug the hydraulic line to the top of the vertical drive and disconnect the hydraulic pump from the drive. This will ensure that the shaft is not being adversely affected by the use of the hydraulic line.
If you do not have a pivot point, you can simply set the system of the power steering pump to the lowest setting and ensure that the height of the power steering pump is also set to the lowest setting. The axle needs to be aligned with the middle point of the tracks to ensure the vibration is not being caused by the fact that the axle is moved. Using a screwdriver you can turn the axle a little so that it is aligned on the tracks, but you need to make sure that the screwdriver is not slipping as this will cause the axle to vibrate and eventually cause the shaft to mis-balance. Be careful and take the time to work carefully and slowly to avoid the problem from getting worse.
If you think that you have found the cause of the power steering pump, then you can now remove the seal in the grease fitting of the oil filter that is located under the drive shaft. The problem with this particular part is that the seal is leaking due to too much force being applied during turning the gearbox. This is the main reason why your machine is not working correctly.
You can use a screwdriver to unthread the seal from the thread while you place the air compressor on the jack stand. Ensure that the fluid is not in the oil tank before you attempt to take the seal off.
The first step is to apply a little force to the seal until you feel a bit of resistance when turning the gearbox on. After applying a bit of force, use a screwdriver to undo the seal until you feel the seal slipping back into the threaded part of the gearbox.
As the seal needs to be totally removed, make sure that the gearbox is turned off before you remove the seal. Make sure that you are using the correct tools, and do not try to clean off the seal yourself.
