Most Common Failure of Industrial Cardan Shaft

Sometimes, buyers ask us, how do we tell if the drive shaft is out of order? So today we're going to talk about the common failures of the cardan shaft.

 

1. Industrial cardan shaft

(1) Common failures

A. The rotation of the gears on the shaft. Sometimes there is a momentary pause. This could be a broken connection key on the shaft.

B. The phenomenon of rotation yaw on the shaft. It may be that the gap between the wheel hole and the shaft is too large, the shaft diameter is too small, or the diameter of the wheel hole is too large.

C. The gear of shaft rotation has periodic meshing rotation noise, which may be caused by the bending of shaft. The diameter of the matching part of the shaft and the rolling bearing becomes smaller, and the shaft will rotate in the inner sleeve of the rolling bearing, making the bearing temperature rise higher.

 

(2) The reasons of failures

A. The temperature of machine barrel is low or the metal foreign body falls into the machine barrel. The torque of driving shaft is suddenly increased and bending deformation occurs.

B. The bearing at both ends of the industrial cardan shaft is often damaged, and the rolling shaft is disassembled and installed for many times, so that the diameter of the matching part of the shaft and the rolling bearing becomes smaller due to the shaft wear.

C. Big clearance between gear internal hole and shaft. Sometimes the overloading of the gear drive causes damage to the connecting keys and changes the size of the keyway on the shaft.

 

(3) Faults and maintenance

A. The shaft bending is relatively small, and the center holes at both ends of the shaft are supported by the top to test the shaft bending.Find out the part of the big swing value when the shaft moves with the percent table and mark it.Then straightening the shaft with a press.

B. The diameter of the mounted rolling bearing part of the shaft becomes smaller.It can be plated with hard chrome or sprayed with hard alloy, and then ground to fit size.

C. The keyway on the shaft is damaged, and the groove can be re-milling at the original position. The specification size of the groove is one specification larger than the original size.It can also be used in the original keyway position at 60 ° milling a keyway instead.

 

2. Car cardan drive shaft

A. The transmission shaft is unbalanced.

Fault phenomenon: the car makes a periodic noise and the higher the speed is, the louder the noise will be, even accompanied by the vibration of the car body, the numbness of the hands holding the steering wheel, which is the fault of unbalanced transmission shaft.

 

Fault cause: (1) The balance piece of the drive shaft falls off. (2)Drive shaft bending or drive shaft tube depression. (3) The shaft pipe and universal joint are not welded properly or the shaft has not been tested and calibrated. (4) The telescopic fork is installed in the wrong position, so that the universal joint fork of both ends of the transmission shaft is not in the same plane and does not meet the uniform transmission conditions.

 

Fault diagnosis and elimination method: (1) Check if drive shaft tube is dented. (2) Check if the balance sheet of the transmission shaft tube is off. (3) Check whether the expansion fork is installed correctly. (4) Take off drive shaft for balance test.

 

B. Abnormal sound of cardan drive shaft.

Fault phenomenon: When a car is driving, it is obvious that the cardan shaft makes abnormal noise, especially when changing gears. When the speed is stable, the noise decreases or disappears. In the special vehicle driving the transmission device issued periodic noise, the higher the vehicle speed sound, serious accompanied by body vibration.

 

Fault cause: (1) Unbalance of transmission shaft, deformation of cardan shaft or loss of balance piece, etc. (2) The fixed bolts of intermediate support hanger are loose or the connection bolts of universal joint flange plate are loose, causing the propeller shaft to deviate. (3) The universal joint bearings are worn, bitten and damaged. (4) Loose coupling of sleeve and universal joint fork holes and loose bolts of supporting plate cause the sleeve to rotate, so that the universal joint fork holes wear too large, loose and cause abnormal noise.

 

Fault diagnosis and elimination method: (1) Check if drive shaft tube is dented. (2) Check if the balance sheet of the transmission shaft tube is off. (3) Check whether the expansion fork is installed correctly. (4) Take off drive shaft for balance test. (5) Check whether the connection bolts of intermediate support hanger and universal joint flange plate are loose.

 

C. Drive shaft are loose.

Fault phenomenon: You can hear the crash as the car starts. In the sudden change of speed, the noise is more obvious, stable throttle slow driving noise is less. There is a noise as the car slow.

 

Fault cause: (1) Flange plate connection bolts are loose. (2) The swimming angle of the main and driven part of the universal joint is too large. (3) Cardan joints are badly worn.

 

Fault diagnosis and elimination method: (1) Gently tap each universal joint flange plate joint with a hammer to check its tightness. (2) Hold the universal joint main and driven parts with both hands, and check the swimming angle.
